Hi there

  • Loving the weather here in CT at the moment.  We never experience weeks of freezing temperatures or greyness, and never long months of high high temps or humidity either.  Yes, it's unpredictable but it's that very change from day to day that we love!

  •  Getting out there now, to exercise and take in that glorious sunshine, before heading back to light the fire and bring in the laundry before it rains.  Working at home does have it's perks.

cheers and enjoy your day too

Greetings

  • Planning a get-away is almost as much fun as the real thing, isn't it.  Hours are spent trawling the internet for special deals on accommodation, transport and other interesting options.
  • It's the interesting options which often open up all sorts of other avenues of adventure, places you would never have thought of visiting but in the back of your mind someone mentioned somewhere along the line......., activities you always thought you should try but haven't experienced up till now - there it is, that special offer you just have to take up.  Be brave,  tackle something different - it's so worth it, always!

Good afternoon

  • Recently learnt about the 'hierarchy of adjectives' - the unspoken rule that descriptions should follow, as follows: 'opinion-size-age-shape-colour-origin-material-purpose'.  English is such a fascinating language but must be a real challenge to learn if it's not your mother tongue.
  • With this in mind, it now makes perfect sense why Brett Murray's highly-controversial-large-fairly recent-colourful-painting depicting Mr Zuma's spear fulfilled it's purpose so successfully.

Hello

  • Attended the Yale Spizzwinks outdoor concert at De Waal Park yesterday afternoon.  Gorgeous weather, great singing and lovely surroundings, pity about some of the other attendees and their out of control dogs!  Not sure why people attend that sort of event if they are going to talk to their friends throughout the concert, really rude!  And their smelly unruly animals, looking for a fight and finding it, also throughout the concert.  Interesting group of Capetonians - guess it takes all sorts.  Apologies to the Spizzwinks, on behalf of the badly behaved (have to admit we had been warned by Ms K, how right she was!)

Just love trying a new recipe and then voila! it works!  Cooking dinner for friends.....

  • Heavenly earthy smells of roasting fresh beetroot, just cooked, peeled then tossed in a fresh orange and balsamic syrup while still warm, to go with baby spinach and creamy blue cheese salad
  • comforting braised red cabbage with apples, onions & thyme
  • all the above pinkness will set off the slow roasted rosemaried pork served with crushed potatoes, yum!

Will tell you about the dessert, next time - have to rush out to buy the fresh fish for the non-meat eater, HELP!

Have a wonderful warm weekend

Greetings

  • Love this quote:  "Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is like expecting the bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian."  says Dennis Wholey in The Sun
  • On more or less the same tack..... why do so many young people seem so totally unconcerned about their appearance when it comes to their appeal to potential employers?  Employers are fully aware of the "myth of the authentic self" and the "projection of your chosen appearance" being a "fundamental human right" but they are (or rather, should also be) aware of the other (deliberate) image being portrayed, that of "I don't care" - that's most often the dangerous area employers are not prepared to take a chance on.  Don't the unshaven, hoodies and dental floss skinnies of this world get it?  They obviously still don't care.

Good afternoon

Two hot talking points over the dinner table right now

  • is Brett Murray's The Spear painting of Zuma disrespectful and immoral or is it an interesting work of art, with the artist using his creative license to express his views on the state of SA politics at the moment???  Amusing how most of those shocked that this painting should have been exhibited at all, are men.......
  • should the Principal (and his pupils) of the overcrowded South Peninsula High School have marched on the property down the road (that has been standing vacant for years), broken the lock and started moving in.......?  All sorts of ramifications but at last the public and the powers that be have taken notice.  Watching this one to see if it is going anywhere, soon......?

Hey  hope you've a fab weekend planned???

So the Winter greys have set in and no amount of cheerfulness will disguise the fact that it's suddenly pretty cold out there.  So, what to do....... to make it better

  • Interesting Art-a-Fare on at the Beautiful Life Building, 70 -72 Bree St Cape Town.  A bi-monthly exhibition showing new works by the best up-and-coming new mixed-media talent, opens on Saturday 19 May, 10:00 to 17:00 and it's free.

  • For the rest, it looks like a rugby (if you're a fan), good soup, cheese, bread and lots of red wine kind of weekend.  Not a fan, then stoke the fire, line-up the classic dvd's and your book of the moment and make sure the aforesaid warming stuff is on hand.  Enjoy!

Hi there

Good and bad news re waste

  • "Innovative plastic pipe bins are being used in a waste removal project – the first of its kind in South Africa – to clear discarded fishing line from beaches along the country's coastline.

The bins have been placed at beaches and fishing spots in the area and anglers are encouraged to use them to recycle or dispose of their used fishing line. Municipality officials are responsible for opening and removing the waste on a weekly basis.

The first network of 21 bins has already been placed at local beaches and popular fishing spots such as Franskraal, Gansbaai, Kleinbaai, Romansbaai, Pearly beach and Kleinmond."

The bins have an opening at the top, where the pipe curves, and the bottom is sealed to prevent fishing line from blowing away. (Image: Aim Marketing and Communications)

Morning morning

  • Strange how we put off spoiling ourselves and then once we've booked that massage or hair appointment etc it's as if it's ok to indulge ourselves, the big decision has been made.  We succumb to the pampering and then wonder why it felt like spoiling (or pampering) in the first place - it feels sooooo good. A new you!
  • Humans were meant to be touched by their fellow humans, it's such an essential element of our well-being and as we grow older, we should allow ourselves to experience this without feeling guilty - as often as possible, if not regularly
  • Even a hug is heaven for the heart and soul.

Morning

There's nothing better than eating out at a friends, family or at both new and familiar restaurants

  • family for some growing-up favorites:  my Mum's bolognese - no one makes it like she does.  I've tried and it's delicious but it's just not the same.  My Ouma's chicken pie in flaky pastry - no one has come close!
  • friends for the opportunity to try some new recipes or combinations but to be honest, my favorite part is the interesting conversation and especially the laughs!
  • restaurants/ cafes/delis where I gravitate towards the simple dishes that I enjoy but find a hassle to cook at home:  a small piece of fillet or fresh fish grilled to perfection, accompanied by perfect french fries - delicious and no disguise!  Hard to find though.

Back home, creating my own heavenly dish - when everything works, it's pure art.

Hello

Today, I'm finding it hard to believe that

  • anyone ever even takes notice, never mind reads all the ads that come up when browsing, fbing or reading today's news online....... just wondering?  Is it really worth the advertiser's while?  Can't believe it is but I guess it must be

  •  according to some historian, "the three most written-about subjects of all time are Jesus, the Civil War, and the Titanic" - can this be true....?
