findingthemojo no 265

Hello - so here are two (new) culinary delights food writers are raving about, right now

  • the first is totally familiar to us: the golden berrie - we know it as the Cape Gooseberry or physalis peruviana, this 'super berry' contains "166% more antoxidants than cranberries, twice as much fibre as prunes or dates, and more potassium per 100g than four bananas.  They are also a rich source of vitamin C, iron, magnesium and phosphorous" - move over ghoji berries!

  • next is Salep - a nutritious starch-like flour made from the tubers of the wild orchid, used in beverages and desserts, especially Turkish ice-cream, giving the ice-cream "a gorgeous chewy elasticity" - can't wait to try this one!
